Apology sent by
Claudine
For good and ill, the Iraqi prisoner abuse mess will remain an issue.
On the one hand, right thinking Americans will abhor the stupidity of
the actions while on the other hand, political glee will take control
and fashion this minor event into some modern day "My Lai massacre".
I heard some Arabs and Muslims are asking for an apology. I humbly
offer mine here:
Sometimes, an apology is owed and sometimes it;s nice to get one. The
Vatican apologized for the Inquisition, Crusades and even their position
with respect to the Nazis in WWII. Prestonpans, in Scotland, is pardoning
81 witches they found guilty and executed using sprectral evidence. Yet you
don't think you see a need for apologies over prison abuse. That just says
so much.
I am sorry that the last seven times we Americans took up arms and
sacrificed the blood of our youth, it was in the defense of Muslims
(Bosnia, Kosovo, Gulf War 1, Kuwait, etc.).
Bollocks. You went into Afghanistan to go after the man responsible for
9/11. You went into Iraq because Saddam tried to kill George Bush's daddy
and Iraq will end up providing oil. You lied about the WMD's and terrorism
links. You USED the people of Iraq as another reason, saying you were
freeing them from Saddam. But, you didn't much care about what Saddam did
to Iraqis when he was America's bitch did you? Where were you when
thousands of Kurds died because Saddam wanted it? You weren't there then,
were you? During the Gulf War, America wanted Iraqis to rise up against
Saddam and some died. Saddam made short work of them, didn't he now?
Because you didn't want to alienate the rest of the Middle East. BTW, the
Gulf War and Kuwait were both the same thing. As for Kosova, the idea there
was stopping Milosevic. It suited you to help.
I am sorry that no such call for an apology upon the extremists came
after 9/11.
Maybe what you SHOULD be sorry about is George Bush and his family's close
ties the Saudi royal family. Sorry that while planes in Canada and the
United States were in a lockdown that had all planes granted, George Bush
allowed flights that picked up members of the Saudi royal family and the bin
Ladens and another flight to whisk them out of the country.
I am sorry that all of the murderers on 9/11 were
Islamic Arabs.
Fifteen of them were Saudis. Yet, Bush gave special permission so that they
could leave the country, along with the bin Ladens. That's what I'd be
sorry about. Although, maybe ashamed would describe how I'd feel better. Are you sorry about that happening? I know I'd be. I'd be ashamed to.
I am sorry that most Arabs and Muslims have to live in squalor under
savage dictatorships. I am sorry that their leaders squander their
wealth.
They've been doing just that for a very long time. It hasn't stopped some
Americans, including past and present presidents from doing business with
them, has it? Some of the countried Bush calls friendly towards America are
among the most tyrannical. You look the other way when Saudi Arabia
publicly beheads people on a regular basis. In the 80's, you were helping
both Iran and Iraq. American doesn't seem to care much at all when it comes
right down to it and they might gain from something. You handed a Canadian
named Arar over to Syria. You never charged him. The poor man was born in
the wrong place and you nabbed him in a frickin airport. Syria never
charged him with anything either. What they DID do was torture him and
America KNEW that they would. The State Department's reporting on Syria
outlined human rights abuses in that country. Doing so was a violation of international law but you went ahead and did it anyway. Are you sorry about that?
I am sorry that their governments breed hate for the US in their
religious schools, mosques, and government-controlled media.
Maybe you should be sorry you have Bush in the White House. After all, he's managed to do so much to make Muslims hate America, hasn't he?
I am sorry that Yasir Arafat was kicked out of every Arab country and
highjacked the Palestinian "cause". I am sorry that no other Arab
country will take in or offer more than a token amount of financial
help to those same Palestinians.
I'd be sorry that America always sides with Israel, never ever does anything to Israel even when Israel's wrong. No country is always right, not even yours.
I am sorry that the USA has to step in and be the biggest financial
supporter of poverty stricken Arabs while the insanely wealthy Arabs
blame the USA for all their problems.
Actually, you're great friends with some of those countries, especially Saudi Arabia. The family has been doing business with the Saudis for decades. I haven't heard anything about the living conditions there.
I am sorry that our own left wing elite, our media, and our own
brainwashed (from elements of our society like radical professors,
CNN and the NY TIMES) masses do not understand any of this.
Actually, the networks have let the Bush and his Republicans get away with murder. When Republicans and the Right were all over Clinton, nobody said anything about what they were doing, did they? How many millions were spent trying to impeach Bush because he fooled around with his wife and fibbed about it, yet the media never said a thing? They've also been pretty quiet about the lies the Bush Republicans have been tossing out as the truth. Not nearly enough has been said about the voting irregularities in 2,000 or the one's already showing up this time around. Nobody said much when Florida went to Bush in 2,000 and his brother is governor, Katherine Harris certified Bush as winner in Florida. If that wasn't bad enough, the Supreme Court locked it for Bush and he can thank the Justices daddy dearest put on the bench. I haven't heard the media say much about the fact that the Bush administration did their best to prevent having the 9/11 Commission, the attempts to avoid unpleasant questions, put time and insulting spending limits on the Commission.
I am sorry the United Nations scammed the poor people of Iraq out
of the "food for oil" money so they could get rich while the common
folk suffered.
Funny. It doesn't always bother you, only when it's to American advantage.
I am sorry that some Arab governments pay the families of homicide
bombers upon their death. I am sorry that those same bombers are
brainwashed thinking they will receive 72 virgins in "paradise."
I'd be sorrier that your President has made for many more people who'll sign up for the job.
I am sorry that the homicide bombers think pregnant women, babies,
children, the elderly and other noncombatant civilians are a legitimate
targets.
Maybe you should be sorry Bush's stupidity and lack of planning has probably put over 300 tons of a powerful explosive in their hands. You should be sorry George Bush USED 9/11 to do what they were already planning, going after Iraq. It wasn't enough that he gave bin Laden such a big head start to evade capture, no, you had to go into Iraq and make IT your primary concern. Thanks to that, in half the time, American casualties in Iraq are over 1,100 to the 141 in Afghanistan. By the way, while you're at it and worried about those bombers, how come you're not sorry that war with Iraq led to in influx of terrorists into Iraq?
I am sorry that our troops die to free more Arabs from the gang rape
rooms and the filling of mass graves of dissidents of their own making.
Your troops in Iraq are dying because George Bush wanted this war.
I am sorry that Muslim extremists have killed more Arabs than
any other group.
But not sorry you've produced even more of them?
I am sorry that foreign trained terrorists are trying to seize control
of Iraq and return it to a terrorist state. I am sorry we don't drop
a few dozen Daisy cutters on Fallujah.
I am sorry every time terrorists hide they find a convenient "Holy
Site".
They didn't have to hide in America before 9/11, did they? The hiding was being done by the Bush administration. They were warned about bin Laden and paid no attention. They blame everything on Clinton, when the truth is Clinton did more than Reagan, Bush Sr. or the current Bush President, the stupid one.
I am sorry they didn't apologize for driving a jet into the
World Trade Center that collapsed and severely damaged Saint Nicholas
Greek Orthodox Church - one of our Holy Sites.
I am sorry they didn't apologize for flight 93 and 175, the USS Cole,
the embassy bombings, the murders and beheadings of Nick Berg
and Daniel Pearl, etc....etc!
I am sorry Michael Moore is American; he could feed a medium sized
village in Africa.
I notice you didn't say Moore lied. I guess it's hard to make that accusation when he told the truth.
America will get past this latest absurdity. We will punish those
responsible because that is what we do. We hang out our dirty laundry
for all the world to see. We move on.
Ya think? I can show you more than a few instances that prove who's hiding what.
That's one of the reasons we
are hated so much.
No, you've lost respect in much of the world because you've deserved losing it. You tried bullying the world into going into Iraq. You've bullied nations into an agreement that they will never hand an American over to the International Criminal Court. You lost respect because almost every reason Bush gave for war with Iraq was crap. You think that the rules apply to everyone else but not to you, you should have special status. That way, it's wrong when anyone else does it but justified when your government does it.
We don't hide this stuff like all those Arab
countries that are now demanding an apology.
Bollocks!
Deep down inside, when most Americans saw this reported in the news,
we were like - so what? We lost hundreds and made fun of a few
prisoners.
Will you feel that way when your enemies treat Americans the same way? Make no mistake, it'll happen to some innocent person in enemy hands. The captors will point out what you've done to others. Will the attitude over something like that still be one that says "so what"? Under Bush, your government has brought America down to the level of those they condemn. You've violated the rights of your own citizens. You've broken international laws, held people in Gitmo for years without even the right to see a lawyer, not facing any charges, even years after incarceration. A good 80 to 90% of the prisoners in Abu Ghraib shouldn't have even been there. A lot were there because of a mistaken identity or because America offered rewards for into on other Iraqis. Iraqis were clamoring all over everything to turn people in, just for the money.
Sure, it was wrong, sure, it dramatically hurts our cause, but until
captured we were trying to kill these same prisoners.
No, you weren't. Not when the vast majority were innocent.
Now we're
supposed to wring our hands because a few were humiliated? Our
compassion is tempered with the vivid memories of our own people
killed, mutilated and burnt amongst a joyous crowd of celebrating
Fallujans.
If you want an apology from this American, you're going to have a long
wait. You have a better chance of finding those 72 virgins.
Somehow, I think Americans will have to wait even longer to have this all settled if they give Bush 4 more years. Osama loves him and it's easy to see why? More Muslims hate America every day, thanks to Bush. All your apologies have proved to me rather interesting. Especially since so many think that George Bush should have apologized for a thing or two and never has. He gets another 4 years and you'll have far more enemies. Then, it'll all be about those fanatic Muslims, nothing to do with the fanatic fundamentalist Bush. Now THAT's said.
