Lady Laden: A Hero to Koreans
http://www.angelfire.com/journal2/uglykorea/ladenstatue.html

The caption below this photo reads: "I kill them for world peace."
Among Koreans 9/11 inspired not horror or sympathy, but a wave of
Osama bin Laden fan pages. I ventured into Korean chat rooms after
9/11 and found that nearly all Koreans were happy about the attacks,
which they felt were just payback for American "arrogance." Many
younger Koreans also expressed the hope that if the U.S. was destroyed
Korea could emerge as the number one nation in the world.

When Kim Dong-song was disqualified in the finals of the men's 1500
meter short track speedskating event at the Salt Lake Games, Koreans
blamed Apollo Anton Ohno, who got the gold and all Ameicans. Koreans
were quick to let Americans know how much fun they had on 9/11.

This image was found on one of a dozen anti-U.S. sites that sprung up
after the Olympics. Notice how eager the Koreans are to tell the
Americans what they really felt about 9/11.

Racist cartoon from Korea's leading daily

This is a editorial cartoon from the Chosun Ilbo, Korea's number 1
daily newspaper. The picture depicts Korean president Kim Dae-jung
caught between America and Kim Jong-il. Kim Jong-il, dictator of North
Korea, is labeled, "Axis of Evil' in reference to George Bush's State
of the Union speech. Uncle Sam is labeled, "the Embodiment of Evil," a
label given to the United States by one of President Kim's top
lieutenants.

Koreans refer to Americans by the racist term "big-nosed people." This
cartoon embraces that nasty joke and elevates it to a political
statement.

On February 19, days after a top lieutenant of President Kim Dae-jung
called George W. Bush "the embodiment of evil" group of 20
anti-American terrorists weilding steel pipes seized control of the
offices of the American Chamber of Commerce in Seoul.

The attackers were so brazen that they videotaped the event and posted
it on the Internet at ohmynews.com. The video shows them threatening
AmCham's executive director Tammy Overby hostage and her staff with
metal pipes and marching them out of the office.

Then the students got down to work. The tossed computers into a pile
against the door and smashed a huge plate glass window. In the words
of IHT reported Don Kirk, the office was "trashed."

However, the Korean courts and press did not see the act as anything
to rasise a fuss about. The students were not given two years of
probation and no criminal records and were not required to pay
damages. The Korea Herald blamed Bush's policies for the attack and
called the U.S. embassy's request for the names of the perpertrators
an "overreaction."

This photo, taken by the terrorists themselves, reveals that not all
were students.

Koreans were quick to forge a bizzarre connection between 9/11 and the

Korea and all it took was a controversial call at the Olympics to

Korean press reports to the contrary, Korea's World Cup soccer match
was not free of ugly anti-Americanism. The USA players were booed
everytime they touched the ball, which didn't happen to the opponents
in Korea's other matches. Stadium officials confiscated dozens of
banners with death threats and 9/11 insults. American fans at the
match were kept under tight police protection. Many Americans reported
that Koreans yelled "I hate Ohno at them."

Korea's new national sport: burning Old Glory

Now is not a good time to be a U.S. flag in South Korea. Wathcing the
Korean news, each night you are guaranteed at least one clip of Old
Glory being burned. This photo is of a protest by rice farmers who are
protesting attempts by the WTO to open the Korean market. (Of course
they don't burn Vietnamese of Chinese flags, though those countries
are pushing harder for the opening of the Korean rice market than the
United States is.)

There is something about a buring or desecrated American flag that
gets Koreans juices flowing. Virtually all Korean college campuses
have Old Glory spray-painted on the street for all to trod upon on
their way to classes. A demonstration lass week outdid all others when
a ten meter long American flag was burned.

The death of JFK a big joke to South Korean cable TV conglomerate
http://www.angelfire.com/journal2/uglykorea/skylifeinsult.html

Comedy equals tragedy plus time, goes the famous observation on the
nature of humor.

In South Korea, the axiom has a sick twin brother: America plus
tragedy equals big laughs.

A case in point is a new multi-million dollar ad campaign by a South
Korean media company that fishes for big laughs over the deaths of
Marilyn Monroe, John F. Kennedy and Florence Griffith-Joyner, who two
years ago died suddenly of a rare ailment. The above photo is from the
magazine campaign.

The TV commercial, which appears on major Korean networks during their
evening news broadcasts, begins with footage of JFK waving to the
crowd. A voiceover, using a comedic tone, says, ¡°Too bad he¡¯ll never
get to see it.¡±

The scenario and the voiceover are repeated with footage of Monroe and
FloJo winning her gold medal at the Seoul Olympics in 1988.

Then the logo flashes for SkyLife, a new Korean digital cable service
that will debut in March of 2002. ¡°But the good thing is that you can
see it,¡± the voiceover says in loud, excited voice.

SkyLife is owned by the Korea Satellite Broadcasting Co., a consortium
of various Korean investors and media companies.

over the disqualification of Kim Dong-song in the short track finals

killing civilians during the Korean war.

While the song has yet to be commercially released, an mp3 version
peaked at number six in downloads at the Korean music site

there were ballons with ridiculous anti-American slogans. For
elementary schoolers there was the Old Glory shooting gallery. And for
the cool middle school and high school kids there was a special treat:
a group of rappers and singers came from Seoul University to perform
their "Fucking USA" medly. So I am sure these kids will grow up

Newspapers fan flames of anti-American sentiment, help incite boycott

In the wake of the Salt Lake controversy now known as "Ohnogate,"
Korea's mainstream press helped to incite boycotts against American
comapanies such as McDonald's, Nike and Starbucks. They did this by
giving maximum coverage to calls from fringe groups to boycott U.S.
products and running articles with incindiary headlines such as
"Boycott America, young people declare."

This very provocative graphic came from GoodDay Sports, a daily
tabloid which had declared the U.S.A. guilty of "Gold medal
terrorism."

None of the editorial pages that were quick to condemn the U.S. for
the Salt Lake Games denounced the boycotts even after they proved to
be quite damaging to American companies. McDonald's was forced to run
massive sales to attract customers and cut back expansion plans.

the man who has pledged to destroy America, is a cult hero in Korea,
especially with young people. Why do Koreans love bin Laden so? Many
apologists will try to justify the worship on historical grounds.
Don't be fooled. Plain, bald-faced bigotry is behind it. Koreans,
jealous of perceived American power, were thrilled to see America
humbled. What about sympathy for the children who lost mothers and
fathers in the Twin Towers. Never ask that question to a Korean as
they will get very angry at you and yell that why should they care a

Hey, I'm an American and I don't like arrogant bullies either. May

If Kim Jong Il really wanted to get inventive, he'd say, "OK, I give up, you

Korea's Red Devils threaten American players lives

Korean press reports to the contrary, Korea's World Cup soccer match
was not free of ugly anti-Americanism. The USA players were booed
everytime they touched the ball, which didn't happen to the opponents
in Korea's other matches. Stadium officials confiscated dozens of
banners with death threats and 9/11 insults. American fans at the
match were kept under tight police protection. Many Americans reported
that Koreans yelled "I hate Ohno at them."

Korea's new national sport: burning Old Glory
http://www.angelfire.com/journal2/uglykorea/flagfire1.html
http://www.angelfire.com/journal2/uglykorea/photos/flagburning1.jpg

The death of JFK a big joke to South Korean cable TV conglomerate
http://www.angelfire.com/journal2/uglykorea/skylifeinsult.html
http://www.angelfire.com/journal2/uglykorea/photos/kennedy.jpg

Sheet music to the South Korean sleeper chartbuster 'Fucking USA'
http://www.angelfire.com/journal2/uglykorea/fuckingusasheetmusic.html
http://www.angelfire.com/journal2/uglykorea/photos/fuckingUSA.gif
This song was written by You Min-seok, a folk singer and graduate of
Korea University, one of Korea's most prestigious schools. It rages
over the disqualification of Kim Dong-song in the short track finals
and also accuses Americans of dividing Korea, raping Korean women and
killing civilians during the Korean war.
While the song has yet to be commercially released, an mp3 version
peaked at number six in downloads at the Korean music site
imufe(imufe.com).

Anti-U.S. groups teaching kids to hate America
http://www.angelfire.com/journal2/uglykorea/antiusparty.html
http://www.angelfire.com/journal2/uglykorea/photos/gungame.jpg
Below are some scenes from one of several recent "Oh-no Anti-US
Festivals" held in Korea. This one was family orientied. For toddlers
there were ballons with ridiculous anti-American slogans. For
elementary schoolers there was the Old Glory shooting gallery. And for
a group of rappers and singers came from Seoul University to perform
their "Fucking USA" medly. So I am sure these kids will grow up
capable of having a fair debate on Korean-American issues. Yeah,
right!

Newspapers fan flames of anti-American sentiment, help incite boycott
of American products
http://www.angelfire.com/journal2/uglykorea/fanflames.html
http://www.angelfire.com/journal2/uglykorea/photos/collage.jpg

Bestselling Korean book 'Gangster America' published post-9/11

http://www.angelfire.com/journal2/uglykorea/photos/gangster.jpg
In making sense of the horror of 9/11 Korean academics minimized the
threats of global terrorism to Korea by blaming the whole conflict on
America. This was one bestseller, titled, "Gangster America."

Big-nosed Ohno steals a 'Korean cultural asset'
http://www.angelfire.com/journal2/uglykorea/goldnose.html
http://www.angelfire.com/journal2/uglykorea/photos/bignosegold.jpg
I get a kick out of this one. Apollo Anton Ohno is drawn with a
pelican's beak of a nose, though the skater is Asian-American. The
cartoon refers to Ohno's gold medal in the 1500m short track event at
the Salt Lake Games as "one more stolen Korean precious cultural
asset." Ohno won the medal after Korean martyr Kim Dong-song was
disqualified for blocking the American.

Tea shop honors Korean folk hero Osama bin Laden
http://www.angelfire.com/journal2/uglykorea/koreanfolkhero.html
http://www.angelfire.com/journal2/uglykorea/photos/ladenteashop.jpg
For those of you who cannot read Korean, the Korean shop on the corner
of this picture with the orange sign reads, "bin Laden tabang." A
tabang is a sleazy Korean tea shop that usually provides sexual
services. This shop is just one more piece of evidence the bin Laden,
the man who has pledged to destroy America, is a cult hero in Korea,
especially with young people.
Never ask that question to a Korean as
they will get very angry at you and yell that why should they care a
rat's booty what happens to an American.
These are the people that your sons and daughters are protecting,
Americans.

Newspaper gives hero status to cyber terrorists attacking U.S.
http://www.angelfire.com/journal2/uglykorea/ninja.html
http://www.angelfire.com/journal2/uglykorea/photos/ninja.jpg
The following article appeared on Feb. 28, 2002 in the Sports Chosun,
a leading daily tabloid. The article lauds "the heroics" of Korean
cyber terrorists who went on the warpath during the Salt Lake Olympics
when Koreans believed their short track skaters were the victims of
biased officiating.
In Korea when hackers set out to bring down local sites, they are
tracked down by elite cyber police and prosecuted. But this newpsaper
article proudly lists all the sites that were disrupted or destroyed
by Koreans during "Ohnogate" without any mention that such activity is
cyber terrorists are heroes when they attack the U.S.
